✨Optimize✨- ChatGPT vs Website Chatbot | New LLM Models Google, Microsoft, Alibaba

Be Careful With ChatGPT for Your Website’s Chatbot.

With AI becoming a part of many tasks in our daily life, there can be a misconception on the type of AI that is best for building AI for your website, whether it’s an AI Chatbot or an embedded AI Display.

Using a tool like OpenAI’s ChatGPT without a RAG architecture can open your business up to all sorts of issues. Here are a few:

  • Competitor recommendations

  • Incorrect legal information, warranty, guarantee, T&C, etc.

  • Regulatory issues, if you are selling a product under FDA regulations

AI for website: A Quick Primer

Let's back up a bit. AI is more than just an LLM. Website AI systems use an LLM for certain tasks but wrap other AI components around it. A typical architecture includes RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) to access site-specific data, along with scripted AI (intent-based AI) and different layers for generative AI prompts.

This approach restricts the AI to only the information on the website, including text from pages and blogs, e-commerce product data, directory data, and so on. Additional information can also be fed in, such as a customer support training manual or product and service documentation that may not appear on the website itself.

For more complex websites, such as e-commerce sites, there are many other data inputs connected to the site's software and database, like inventory levels, pricing changes, upsell and cross-sell data, shopping cart totals for free shipping thresholds, and more.

The bottom line is that you can ask ChatGPT to read your site and answer questions, and it will work well in the moment, but that is not a secure or accurate AI solution for your website. You don't want an AI that can answer anything under the sun, one whose source data is unknown and often pulled from your competitors' sites.

Public AI systems like ChatGPT are also built to continue a conversation. This keeps users on their platform, increases costs, and delays users from completing their actual task. It's like walking into a store where the employee holds you hostage in conversation. Some follow-up and conversion confirmation is warranted, but the endless back-and-forth is not.

ChatGPT is a great LLM and works well in a website chatbot, but it needs to be restricted with a RAG architecture and specific prompts so it does not go off the rails and is trained to keep a tight and specific conversation.
