To have an email opened or a blog read requires a good title or subject line. Just like a newspaper or checkout gossip magazine, you only have a small space to pique the curiosity of the reader to want more. In the digital world that space is the inbox and search engine results.

1. “Never Do This!”
Starting with a negative statement has a higher open rate than a positive statement. This can trigger our survival instincts to make sure we get the information we need to succeed and survive.

2. Numbers Matter ✨
Placing a number in front of the sentence, especially an odd number increases click-through and open rates. Eye candy like a well-placed emoji also helps. The more concise your message the easier it is to understand.

3. Keep it Short
Email subject lines and search results do not have much space, the shorter the title the faster it is read and understood. Try to keep the subject line ideally to 3-5 words or less than 70 characters. For email try to sound like you are talking to the person.

For email, remember to always A/B test, avoid writing in all caps, and don’t use certain words that trigger spam filters.
